10 unique postcards of rarely seen paintings by Mabel Loomis Todd (1856-1932), featuring flora and fauna local to Amherst, Massachusetts, and poetry by Todd’s father.

The 10 postcard images are prints of watercolor paintings by Mabel Loomis Todd that adorn the original manuscript of “A Sunset Idyl and other Poems,” by her father E. J. Loomis who wrote the poems in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of his marriage to Mary Wilder. An exhibition of large scale prints from the manuscript are currently on view at The Mill District Local Art Gallery in Amherst from January 13th through April 27, 2026.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of the postcard prints of Loomis Todd’s paintings exhibited at The Mill District Local Art Gallery will benefit the Emily Dickinson Museum.

Mabel Loomis Todd (1856-1932) left an unmistakable imprint on the Town of Amherst through her inexhaustible energy and abundant artistic, literary, and civic organizing talents. Now chiefly remembered as the editor of the first posthumous collections of Emily Dickinson’s poetry, Todd also wrote and published a novel, travel memoirs, popular works on astronomy, and volumes of her own poetry. She led the establishment of a number of community institutions including the Amherst Historical Society, the Mary Mattoon chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Amherst Woman’s Club as well as other local and regional clubs related to writing, theater, and music.

Eighteen paintings and the manuscript of “A Sunset Idyl and Other Poems” by E. J. Loomis are also the subject of an upcoming 2026 exhibit at the Emily Dickinson Museum.
